Torrades de Santa Teresa

Torrades de Santa Teresa, Santa Teresa's toasts (also known as rostes or coquetes) are a traditional way to eat up leftovers. To make them, soak bread in a mixture of milk and eggs, fry it and sprinkle it with sugar. Sometimes other ingredients are added, like lemon zest, cinnamon or vanilla.

This sweet food was typical at Easter time, both in Catalonia and across the entire Iberian Peninsula, including Portugal and Occitania, although today we can normally find it all year round.

The Torradetes de Santa Teresa have an ancient origin, probably stemming from the desire to use up stale bread that the people could not eat.
