Ranxo is a huge soup traditionally traditionally prepared on the Tuesday of Carnival from food brought voluntarily by the the people.

In Barcelona, and in many other places around the country, on this date there are substantial community meals  cooked slowly throughout the entire day in honour of the Rei Carnestoltes, the Carnival King, thanks to donations of food or money by the attendees.

This popular celebration has its origins in the customs of the feudal lords who invited all the villagers to a huge meal, just before Lent
