Dates de celebració

Second fortnight of May in the Teixonera neighbourhood, Horta-Guinardó district

La Teixonera was developed between 1915 and 1930 as an initiative of Joaquim Taxonera, the owner of the land who has lent his name to the neighbourhood. At the beginning it was made up of single-storey houses with gardens, but like many other parts of the district, in the middle of the 20th century blocks of flats began to spring up everywhere. The festa major, the main festival, brings La Teixonera together with the Penitents and Mas Falçó neighbourhoods which are part of the Gràcia district.

Even though it is a festival of three neighbourhoods, the majority of the activities are held in the Teixonera area. There are all kinds of events aimed at all tastes and sections of the public: concerts for young people, games for kids, and activities for older folk. Also very important are the community meals, dances with live bands, and sporting events. The majority of popular culture events are concentrated on the Sunday of the festa major.

About festivities

Highlights

Matí geganter. The huge festival figures, the gegants Perot and La Bugadera, from the Horta-Guinardó district host the trobada gegantera, the meeting of giants. First, they gather all together, then they begin a cercavila procession through neighbourhood streets, and finally, they dance in Plaça de la Vall d’Hebron.

Havaneres. At dusk in the Plaça de la Vall d’Hebron is a cantada d’havaneres, where habaneras are sung accompanied by flaming rum for all.

Correfoc. The popular culture activities are bought to a close with a correfoc fire run, which crosses the neighbourhood and ends up in Plaça de la Vall d’Hebron.
