Motor transport is currently the main cause of emissions in Barcelona and represents 22.6% of the city’s final energy consumption.
The only truly effective way is to reduce the number of vehicles that enter, leave and travel through the city while ensuring that these cars pollute as little as possible. We need to promote safe, sustainable fair and efficient forms of mobility that allow people to continue functioning while reducing the ecological footprint they leave.
Barcelona is committed to reducing private transport and its associated CO2 emissions by 21%, and to increasing alternatives such as travelling on foot (by 10%), by bike (67%) and by public transport (3.5%).
