From the 24th to the 28th of January, the Sants district cinema will be one of 30 European cinemas to host the film premiere series “IFFR Live”

From the 24th to the 28th of January, the Zumeig Cinema, in the Sants district of Barcelona, will be screening five films selected from the latest edition of the Rotterdam International Film Festival, a festival primarily dedicated to the diffusion of independent films. The Zumeig is just one of 30 cinemas in various European cities programmed to host an innovative initiative entitled IFFR Live. In addition to screenings in Catalonia, the films will simultaneously be shown in cinemas in Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and, of course, Holland.

The films to be shown include, on the 24th of January, Atlantic, a drama dealing with the subject of immigration that follows a young Moroccan boy who sets out for the European coastline on a windsurf board. The 25th will be the turn of Erbarme Dich - Matthäus Passion Stories, a film involving a group of homeless people who partake in a choir every Friday and who are invited to attend rehearsals for the St. Matthew Passion, one of the most popular works by J. S. Bach.

The film programmed for Monday the 26th is Melody, a story about a 28-year-old woman who decides to become a surrogate mother, while the 27th will be the turn of Speed Walking, an intense, humorous and evocative tale about life and death as seen through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy. The series will close on the 28th with the world premiere of The Sky Above Us, a drama set around the bombing of Belgrade in 1999.
