Woody Allen and company will perform on New Year’s Eve in the Liceu

The New York film maker, accompanied by his New Orleans Jazz Band, will head the programme for the Suite Festival

It would appear that the city’s cultural offerings for the year are not to cease until the last possible moment. None other than living legend Woody Allen will be spending this New Year’s Eve in Barcelona and, on this occasion, not for the purposes of filming, as his appearance in the Gran Teatre del Liceu is due to reasons linked to his other passion, music.

Armed with his famous clarinet and backed by his regular band, the New Orleans Jazz Band, Allen will offer a repertoire of popular international jazz pieces, some of which have appeared over the decades in the soundtracks of his films. Following the performance, given the exceptional date in question, the organisation will also be offering a Grand New Year’s Eve Dinner, accompanied by traditional “cotillón”, for a group of 300 people in the foyer of the Liceu itself. Both the dinner menu and the instructions for making reservations may be consulted here.

The concert featuring Woody Allen and his band forms part of the Suite Festival, a programme of concerts in the Liceu that includes a dozen or so relevant and eclectic artists who will make appearances over the first months of 2015: Van Morrison (19/01 ), Els Amics de les Arts (16/02), Luz Casal (20/03), Ara Malikian (26/03), Gregory Porter (30/03), Antonio Orozco (12/04) and Kraftwerk (22/04).
