War-time and post-war Barcelona

Visits to Turó de la Rovira

Turó de la Rovira is situated in Horta-Guinardó at 262m above sea level, its summit providing visitors with a perfect panorama of the city of Barcelona. For this reason the Republican military command chose it is an ideal place to install anti-aircraft batteries during the civil war, its privileged location making it a strategic emplacement for the defence of the city.

This year sees the 75th anniversary of the civil war bombings of Barcelona and, to this effect, the Museu d'Història de la Ciutat de Barcelona (MUHBA) has organised a number of activities centred around what is known as “Refugi 307” and the Turó de la Rovira.

Visits have been programmed for the first Sundays of August and September (4/08 and 1/09), a perfect opportunity to get a first-hand look at wreckage from the era and acquaint yourself with both the anti-aircraft artillery and the post-war use and restoration of the location. Inscription costs 5.10€ and the visit will begin at the MUHBA building in Turó de la Rovira, on calle Marìa Lavèrnias (unnumbered).
