Santa Maria del Pi

Discover all of the secrets of Santa Maria del Pi Church

This Gothic church contains plenty of hidden-away crannies: as well as its valuable interior it has a viewpoint that proffers surprising views of the city.

The Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi is one of Barcelona's oldest churches and by some accounts may even date back to Roman times, when it was thought to be an important religious site. The construction of the building standing now however dates from the late-Gothic period of the 14th century and though it may not be as spectacular as the Church of Santa Maria del Mar, it does contain some often overlooked surprises. As well as operating as a functioning church with masses, Santa Maria del Pi hosts classical music concerts and is open to visits which can reveal some surprises.

Visitors to the church will discover its major collection of silver and gold work, religious art and its crypt, inner garden and bell tower, as well as a viewpoint that affords spectacular views of the old city. And all of this can be yours for only €4.

You'll find additional information on the Sant Maria del Pi website.
