A visit to Barcelona’s sewers

The Fàbrica del Sol offers much sought-after guided tours

The world of art has often professed a fascination for hidden worlds, for that which we cannot see, for what lies in the underbelly of our everyday world, that tangible reality that rarely reveals itself. With an introduction like that, we could be talking about many things, and one of them, though surely not the most obvious, is the sewers of any great city such as Barcelona.

How could you resist the opportunity to visit them in person? There are many incentives, from the interest in water from an architectural, engineering or urban planning perspective to simple human curiosity in search of new emotions, all of which, evidently, are compatible.

To satisfy this curiosity, the Fàbrica del Sol is offering guided tours of Barcelona’s underbelly, where the network’s structure, well consolidated since the vital reforms of 1886 overseen by Pere García Faria, can be examined, and visitors are invited to reflect on the city’s water administration.

The visit on the 27th of April is already sold out but the tour will be repeated on the 25th of May and it will be possible to sign up for the tour 14 days beforehand, here.
