Viggo Mortensen presents “Children of the Jungle"

On the 19th of February at 7 pm in the Museu Blau the North American actor will reveal his publishing facet with the presentation of book celebrating the work of German ethnographer and photographer, Max Schmidt

When one thinks of Viggo Mortensen the first thing that usually comes to mind is his talent as an actor or, in some cases, his passion for soccer (he is a die-hard fan of Argentine club San Lorenzo de Almagro). The truth is, though, that Mortensen is a very versatile artist and his career as an actor has always been complemented by his dedication to poetry, photography, painting and music.

One of his least-known vocations, however, is that of patron of cultural projects, by no means an insignificant aspect of his life, given that he runs his own publishing house, Perceval Press, where he publishes his own work as well as that of others. On this note, Mortensen is due to arrive in Barcelona on the 19th of February to present one of his latest publications, Children of the Jungle, a book that reveals the story of German explorer and pioneer of ethnography, Max Schmidt, and the indigenous communities that Schmidt photographed in Brazil and Paraguay. Of significant artistic and scientific value, the book includes photographs by Schmidt himself as well as texts by Federico Bossert and Diego Villar.

The presentation will take place in the Museu Blau at 7 pm and will be attended by Mortensen, Federico Bossert and Diego Villar as well as archaeologist and consultant for the Barcelona Natural Science Museum, Jordi Serrallonga and the director of the museum, Anna Omedes. The event will consist of an initial presentation by Jordi Serrallonga dealing with explorers and naturalists, which will be followed by the presentation of the book by Viggo Mortensen and commentary by Bossert and Villar on the anthropological and archaeological work of Max Schmidt. The event will conclude with a round-table discussion involving the speakers and the audience.
