Time for Sónar 2016!

ANOHNI, Hudson Mohawke, Timeline, James Rhodes and much more at this year’s Sónar Festival

Sónar, which specialises in electronic and experimental music, is one of Barcelona’s most important festivals and was founded by Ricard Robles, Enric Palau and Sergi Caballero in 1994 and is currently managed by Advanced Music. It was originally called the Barcelona International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art and featured talks and exhibitions on the latest trends in electronic music, multimedia art, video and film by prestigious international artists, as well as musical performances. This year’s line up includes top names like ANOHNI, otherwise known as Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons, with producers Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke. 'Become Ocean', a masterpiece by US composer John Luther Adams on climate change, interpreted by OBC, Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya, is another of the highlights.

Another concert that you shouldn’t miss is by James Rhodes the respected London-based pianist and author of the hit autobiography ‘Instrumental’. You’ll also be surprised by the music of Ghana Ata Kak, who will be performing in Europe for the first time, DJ sets by the iconic Laurent Garnier, the UK’s Four Tet, El Niño de Elche & Los Voluble, Richie Hawtin, who will be premiering a new show here, electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre, James Blake with his latest album Flume, Roots Manuva and Kelela, among many others.
