On the 22nd and 29th of January, an invited guest and numerous participants will hold a debate around a table belonging to Chinese artist Ai Weiwei that lends its name to the exhibition
Since the 4th of November last year, the Virreina Centre de la Imatge has been exhibiting more than 40 pieces, including photographs, videos, installations, models, sculptures, graphic design projects, publications and music, all relating to the artistic career of dissident Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei.
The exhibition is entitled On the Table, and can be seen up until the 1st of February. Through the use of objects the exhibition attempts to approach some of the central themes of the life and work of the artist, such as multi-disciplinarity, non-conformism, dissidence and the media.
On the two remaining Thursdays of this month, then, two debates entitled Tasts On the Table (On the Table Samples) have been organised around the very table that Weiwei previously used in his studio in Peking and that has been brought to Barcelona and installed in the former dining area of the Palau de la Virreina.
On each of the two days a guest speaker will select pieces from the exhibition in order to speak about them, their context and the ideas underlying their conception. Following this introduction, the guest and participants, a reduced group of not more than 30 people, will debate the works of the artist around the aforementioned table.
The two Tasts On the Table sessions are entitled Reality, between document and fiction, which will be led by film director and script writer Neus Ballús and will take place on Thursday the 22nd, and From collective creativity to individuality in contemporary China, with Esteban Andueza, BA in Asian Studies and MA in Contemporary Art, on Thursday the 29th.
