Swab, the International Contemporary Art Fair, starts its engines

The initiatives Swab Stairs, in central metro stations, and Fly to Swab, in terminals 1 and 2 of Prat airport, are a taste of what's in store in the main event, programmed for early October

While Swab, the International Contemporary Art Fair, is not due to begin until early October, a taste of what's in store is already available this month in the form of Swab Stairs, an initiative in which students of the foremost design schools in Catalonia have created vinyl artworks to decorate the stairways of the city's more central metro stations.

As part of an initiative promoted by Swab OFF and the metropolitan transport company's culture programme, TMB Cultura, academic art and public spaces unite in a project that has the dual aim of supporting young design students and enriching the daily toing and froing of Barcelona's citizens. As a result of the initiative, from the 18th of June to the 2nd of July, metro travellers will have the opportunity to contemplate authentic works of art while going about their everyday business.

From the 5th of June to the 25th of October, another taste of what's in store is the activity Fly to Swab, which, in collaboration with the Aena Foundation, presents artistic interventions and performances in terminals 1 and 2 of Prat Airport in an effort to establish dialogue and interact with passengers.

The two initiatives form part of the programme for Swab OFF, which consists of numerous activities designed to include the city of Barcelona as an extension of the Art Fair venue.
