Surfcity: Barcelona’s festival of surf culture

The Fabra i Coats culture centre will host this festival featuring art, music and food

Even though Barcelona’s coast is rather lacking in suitable waves, surf culture has an ever-growing number of adepts here. And proof of that is the fact that the second edition of the Surfcity Festival is set to take place at the Fabra i Coats culture centre on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of April.

The core of the festival will once again be an exhibition of contemporary art featuring a varied selection of Catalan and international artists who have presented previously unseen works of art related to the world of surfing. Among the guest artists this year are names like Grant Ellis, Brooks Sterling, Tyler Spangler and Thomas Lodin and Spanish artists like Álvaro Sánchez-Montañés, Víctor Bensusi, Sergio Villalba and Sergi Castellà.

As well as art, the festival also features music, with performances by Holy Bouncer, Zephyr Bones, Twin Drama, Lost Tapes and Tupinamba and session by DJ Coco and DJ Surda. Visitors to the festival will also be able to enjoy some gastronomic treats with surfing-related products on sale at the Surfcity Market, as well as a host of parallel activities including workshops and film screenings.
