A staged concert version of 'Carmen' at Palau de la Música

Three performances of Bizet’s most famous opera are scheduled for August and one for November

Barcelona’s Palau de la Música is set to host a staged concert performance of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen on 12 August. Carmen is one of the best-known and most acclaimed works in its genre and this version by Orquestra Terrassa 48, will feature no fewer than a hundred people on stage, under the orders of conductor Xavier Puig. Among them will be tenor Sergi Giménez and alternating as sopranos Marta Valero and Numil Guerra.

But 12 August will not be the only opportunity to see and hear this concert. There will be other performances on Wednesday 17 August, Friday 26 August and Tuesday 29 November.

Georges Bizet composed Carmen in 1875 and the librettos, by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, is based on the homonymous novel by Prosper Mérimée. The setting is Andalusia at the beginning of the 19th century and the main characters are Carmen, a gypsy woman, and her jealous lover Don José, the bullfighter Escamillo and the peasant woman Micaela.

The version that can be seen at Palau de la Música is a producti9on by NovAria Artists i Bohèmia's produccions, and is part of the Palau’s Opera Cycle for 2016.
