“Sonoritats”, in the Mercat de les Flors

The Camut Band will be giving 11 performances of their latest percussion and dance presentation between the 27th of December and the 4th of January

Sonoritats is the title given to the latest percussion and dance presentation by La Camut Band dance company in which dancers perform a series of a capella choreographies using their feet to create rhythmic sound effects.

The performance is based on the use of materials such as wood, metal, sand and plastic which the nine dancers use to express emotional states, create new rhythm and sound effects and, in general, present a uniquely original aesthetic experience.

The Camut Band was founded in 1994 by brothers Rafael and Lluís Méndez, who are both dancers and choreographers, and Toni Español, leader of the African dance and percussion group Cae Ma Deila and one of the principal figures behind the introduction of African culture into Spain. Combining tap and jazz with African percussion, the company have created their own particular creative style and over twenty years of career have created such memorable presentations as Entre pies y manos (winner of a FAD award), Keatoniana, with pianist Victor Sabatés, or La vida és ritme, with which they toured Spain.

Following recent successes in New York, Toronto, New Haven, Hamburg and Geneva, the Camut Band has expanded to 13 members, 26 if we include the members of the Camut Band Junior. Their show can be seen and heard in the Mercat de les Flors from the 27th of December to the 4th of January.
