Celebrating 25 years of the Sónar Festival

This year’s edition, which takes place from 14 to 16 June, features over 130 performances.

Sónar 2018 is knocking at the door. From 14 to 16 June this festival – which showcases the latest developments in electronic music and its interactions and hybridizations with digital creation - will be celebrating its 25th edition with more than 130 performances in Sónar by Day (at Montjuïc Trade Fair) and Sónar by Night (at the Gran Via Trade Fair). There will be, as usual, a mixture of emerging talent and consolidated artists, including Gorillaz, who will be presenting their latest album Humanz; LCD Soundsystem, a group from New York led by James Murphy, will offer an exclusive show; Thom Yorke of Radiohead, who will review his career alongside Nigel Godrich, and Diplo, one of the most transversal artists in contemporary electronic music.

More urban styles will be present thanks to names like Yung Lean and GoldLink. And there will DJ sets by Modeselektor, A-Trak and Benjamin Damage. The Catalan singer Rosalia will present her new album and new sound, and you can also catch Niño de Elche in concert with bailaor Israel Galván. And don’t miss the closing date on 17 June at Teatre Grec, with a visual extravaganza with piano and electronics featuring Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto.

As with the previous 24 editions, creativity and technology will go hand in hand to offer a unique festival, quite possibly the most popular electronic music festival in the world. To all this, we still have to add the proposals of Sónar + D, as a festival within the festival, to which we will devote another article.
