Six sessions devoted to German Expressionism accompanied by some of the leading DJs on the local scene
Soundtracks have always been a big part of the cinema-going experience, and now Barcelona’s Filmoteca is hosting Silent Films & DJs: six sessions devoted to German Expressionism, accompanied by some of the leading DJs on the local electronic music scene. The sessions will take place from the 26th of February to the 19th of August in two venues: the Filmoteca del Raval and Hotel Alma, and featured DJs include DJ Zero and Kosmos.
German Expressionist cinema is characterised by its non-realistic set designs, stark contrasts between light and shadows and over-acted performances. Form and emotion were given more importance than reality and close-up shots and original camera angles were commonly used techniques.
Among the films scheduled for the cycle are: Das Kabinett des Dr. Caligari and DJ Zero at Filmoteca de Catalunya on 26 February; Nosferatu and DJ Kosmos at Filmoteca de Catalunya on 15 April; Faust – Eine deutsche Volkssage and DJ Peter Pons at Hotel Alma Barcelona on 20 May; Der Golem, wie er in die Welt kam and DJ Javier Verdes at Filmoteca de Catalunya on17 June; Das Wachsfigurenkabinett and DJ Undo at Hotel Alma Barcelona on 15 July;; and Von morgens bis Mitternacht and DJ Daniel Nelltrum O'bongo a l’Hotel Alma Barcelona on 19 August.
