The Shopping Night Barcelona 2013

On Thursday the 28th of November the Passeig de Gràcia will celebrate a gala design and fashion evening inspired by the operatic worlds of Verdi and Wagner

Thursday the 28th of November is the date set for the new edition of Shopping Night Barcelona: a one-off occasion in which the Passeig de Gràcia puts on its finest and opens its doors until one o’clock in the morning, a nocturnal festival which also provides visitors with the opportunity to appreciate the architectural beauty of the modernist and noucentista buildings of the Passeig, which will be especially illuminated for the occasion.

In celebration of their respective bicentenaries, The Shopping Night this year has programmed a series of activities orchestrated by Albert Gallardo and focusing on the operatic worlds of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner. A spectacular opening ceremony will accompany Wagner’s nine Valkyries on horseback to the Palau Robert, and from this point on the Passeig de Gràcia will be divided into three sections inspired by the music of Verdi.

Between carrer Mallorca and carrer Provença the La Traviata - Anna Codorniu section will host stands by recognised brand names who will be offering unique experiences to passers-by as well as a dinner prepared by distinguished chef Carles Gaig.

Carrer Provença, between the Passeig de Gràcia and the Rambla de Catalunya will be the section given over to Rigoletto, the young people’s opera, and this area will be inspired by the parties hosted by the Duke of Mantua and feature design schools and centres such as Modafad, Felicidad Duce, EDSI, IED and IDEP.

Finally, the section on the other side of carrer Provença, stretching as far as Pau Claris, will be given over to the institutions and foundations which collaborate with The Shopping Night. The Trovatore – Liceu space will include stands for the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Auditori, who will be in charge of providing the music, and the Associació per a l’Estudi del Moble, who will provide the corresponding decor.

The central section of the Passeig will feature an audio-visual montage with choruses from operas by Verdi and Wagner and a troupe of ten dancers wearing ten exclusive, musically-inspired designs by Modafad designers.
