The pioneer in the fusion of electronic and Eastern European Romani music will perform for the first time in Barcelona on the 1st of May
On Friday the 1st of May the Barcelona Arts on Stage (BARTS) will host the first edition of Balkan Fever Party featuring Shantel, a pioneer in the fusion of Romani music from Easter European countries with electronic dance music. In his first visit to Barcelona the German musician, a descendent of refugees from Bukovina, will offer a Dj set in presentation of his latest release Viva Diaspora.
The word “diaspora” in the album title comes from the Greek word for “dispersion” or “scattering” and is commonly used to describe situations in which conflicts or geopolitical events oblige groups of people to abandon their homelands or countries of origin for ethnic, political or religious reasons - a fundamental theme in Shantel’s latest recording.
For the performance in the BARTS Shantel will be accompanied by The Freak Fandango Orchestra and the party will close with sessions by Dj Gypsy Box, Dj Grounchoo and Warsaw Balkan Madness.
