On the 22nd of February the Petit Palau concert hall of the Palau de la Música will host a production that combines choral music based on the English playwright’s texts with pieces by the composer of the same era, John Dowland

On the 22nd of February, beginning at 6 pm, the Petit Palau concert hall, part of the Palau de la Música Catalana, will host a tribute concert to William Shakespeare. The one-off performance will feature the Palau de la Música Chamber Choir accompanied by Pere Arquillué as recitalist. The concert, entitled Shakespeare, will combine choral music based around texts by the popular English playwright with music by a composer of the same era, John Dowland.

In addition to Dowland, the performance will also include works by other composers the likes of Ralph Vaughan Williams, Xavier Pagès-Corella, Frank Martin, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi and Josep Vila i Casañas. Vila i Casañas, one of the most respected choral directors in Catalonia and Spain, also provided the idea for the production. He has been at the forefront of the Orfeó Catalá, or Catalan Choral Society, since 1998 and has directed the Palau de la Música Chamber Choir since 2011.
