Screening of 'Shirley. Visions of Reality'

The fourth edition of the film and painting cycle 'For the Love of Art''

Edward Hopper was one of the American painter who portrayed US society best and in the most personal way. Known for his realistic but mysterious portraits of solitude, directly influenced by the idealism of realist painters, he was a student of Robert Henri. In 2004, an enormous collection of Hopper paintings was taken on a tour of different European cities and the exhibition was seen by 420,000 people during its three month stay at London’s Tate Modern. Now, Barcelona’s Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, is exhibiting 13 of Hopper’s painting that tell the story of a fictional actress named Shirley. She is an attractive, charismatic and committed woman living in the American of the 1930s to 1960s.

This is the fourth edition of the For the Love of Art cycle that uses film and painting to explore the relationship between the world of the cinema and the others arts. This edition focuses on museums as institutions and the mechanics of the creation of meaning and values that are related to museums.
