Sala Montjuïc: from castle to cinema

As well as films, music plays an important role in the 15th edition of the cycle.

For 15 summers now, film fans have been making their way up to Montjuïc Castle for the screenings included in Sala Montjuïc, an open-air film cycle that has become a classic event in the city. This year's edition is set to begin on 30 June at 8.45pm with a concert by Renaldo & Clara, followed by the screening of the short film Timecode, and the feature film La Propera Pell (The Next Skin).

The opening evening is one of the cycle events associated with the Grec Festival, which will take place in the castle under the title Nits Grec, with a focus on the Mediterranean. The other two will take place on 26 and 31 July. The evening of 26 July will include a performance by Yacine & The Oriental Groove, followed by the screening of the short film Ringo, and the feature-length production Omar. The evening of 31 July will feature music by the Gökhan Sürer Quartet, the short film Tiger, and the feature film Mustang,

But the cycle has plenty more to offer. Every Wednesday and Friday until 4 August, we'll be able to enjoy a programme that features recent hit like La La Land (5 July) and Spotlight (12 July), as well as iconic classics like The General (28 July) and Manhattan (2 August). The musical part of the evening will be looked after by groups including Wom Trio, C'est Si Bon Band, the chamber music formation of the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès (OSV), and Urutaú. The screening of The General will be accompanied by live music by the OSV and a jazz trio led by Guerassim Voronkov.
