T de Teatre and Dagoll Dagoll bring 'La Tendresa' to Poliorama

This comedy by Alfredo Sanzol, which won the National Prize for Dramatic Literature in 2017, is directed by its author in this Catalan version.

Two of the most popular contemporary Catalan theatre companies, Dagoll Dagom and T de Teatre, are uniting their talents to bring to the stage an acclaimed comedy by Alfredo Sanzol called La ternura in Spanish, La tendresa in Catalan and Tenderness in English. He was awarded the National Prize for Dramatic Literature in 2017 and the XII Valle-Inclán de Teatre Prize for this work, and between these recognitions and the cast that will be performing at Teatre Poliorama, its success seems assured. The cast, which will be directed by Sanzol himself, features Laura Aubert, Elisabet Casanovas, Javi Beltrán, Marta Pérez, Jordi Rico and Ferran Vilajosana. Joan Lluís Bozzo, the long-standing director of Dagoll Dagom, has translated the play into Catalan.

With its Shakespearean airs, Tenderness tells the story of a Queen with magical powers and her two daughters, who are obliged to travel to England with the Spanish Armada by Philip II to undergo marriages of convenience. When they are passing near an island that the Queen believes to be deserted, she creates a storm with the aim of staying there and never having to see another man. However, the island is inhabited by a woodcutter and his two sons, who are hiding there with the aim of never seeing another woman. When the queen and her daughters come upon their new neighbours, they disguise themselves as men, and there begins a long string of conflicts and amorous adventures. Sanzol describes the text as a romantic comedy in which he wants to highlight the fact that, "We cannot protect ourselves from the evil that love brings and if we want to love we must assume the risk of suffering. Neither can parents protect their children from the sufferings of life, because this prevents them from experiencing a full life".

The play features original music by Fernando Velázquez and will premiere at Teatre Poliorama on 19 January. Additional information is available at the following link.
