Retrospective exhibition on Michael Snow at La Virreina

La Virreina Centre de la Imatge presents "Sequences", a journey through the production of the multidisciplinary Canadian artist. The work on show covers his whole career and many pieces are on display for the first time in Europe

Until 1 November, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge is showing Sequences, a major retrospective exhibition devoted to Michael Snow.

Sequences offers a journey through the production of this multidisciplinary artist and highlights the multitude of media and techniques with which he has worked: music, films, video, painting, sculpture, photography, books and installations.

As a musician, Michael Snow has performed in Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan, solo and as a member of various line-ups, and he has also released a number of albums. He is also a painter and sculptor, although since 1962 he has worked primarily in photography and holography.

As regards his cinema facet, his films have been screened at festivals in a number of countries and are in the collections of several film libraries. This format took on special relevance after 1967, when Wavelength won the Grand Prize at EXPRMNTL, the experimental film festival in Knokke-le-Zoute (Belgium), and became an iconic piece of cinema that reflects on its own language.

Coinciding with the exhibition at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, a selection of films by Michael Snow will be shown at the Filmoteca de Catalunya. Also, until 31 July, the Àngels Barcelona gallery is presenting Video Fields, Snow's latest project.
