Radical ideas and books at Fira Literal

Fabra i Coats culture centre to host this fair from the 13th to the 15th of May

The term literal refers to everything that comes out just as it is, without the need to hide itself. And that is the defining characteristic of this Fair of Radical Ideas and Books, an event that highlights the importance of literature and its role as a weapon in the defence of the powerless. In recent years we have seen how literature has once again played a crucial role in the exchange of ideas that is needed for a world in transformation, a reason that more than amply justifies this event.

That’s why Literal came into being, to promote and inspire the work of collectives that produce and reproduce those new ideas year round. It’s basically a fair of books and ideas that brings together publishers, bookshops, writers and readers so that they can share, discuss, and reflect on the world that we are living in and how to change it: critical literature for sharing and expressing new ideas.

Among the activities on offer, as well as the book fair in itself, are talks on the most burning issues including philosophy and gender, new journalisms, critical economics and free culture. The fair also features drama with Josep Julien’s play El bon lladre on Saturday at 8pm. Music is also on the agenda with its own special zone: Literal Black Music, with a continuous schedule of black music and live performances throughout the day featuring Baby Blues Band, Marc Búrdalo Quintet, 13th Magic Skull and the Gigi McFarlane Trio.
