Escena Poblenou: a platform for creativity and the critical spirit

The Festival is reaching its 17th edition with events in different spaces and facilities in the neighbourhood.

The Escena Poblenou Contemporary Creation Festival will be celebrating its 17th edition from 17 to 21 October with a programme that focuses on creative women and support for the critical spirit. The festival is a showcase for contemporary performing arts, is multidisciplinary in scope and is closely tied to the local area and current social reality. It aims to promote, raise awareness of and support creations that contemplate new scenic languages, new dramaturgy and new forms of relationship with the public.

Among the many proposals in the festival that are created, designed, interpreted and directed by women are  Màtria by Carla Rovira, Las Muchas by Mariantònia Oliver, Zen x Zen by Joana Brabo and Realitats Avançades by activist and cultural agitator Simona Levi. Another highlight is La Bugada, a participatory project by women from Poblenou led by the group Labuena Compañía. This year sees the beginning of a collaboration between the festival and the Balearic Government in order to bring companies from the islands to Barcelona. This is the case of the aforementioned Las Muchas and of the show De nou un instant tan breu (Encore Une Heure Si Courte) by La Mecànica & Théâtre du Mouvement.

The performances in the festival will take place in different venues in Poblenou. To find out all the details of the programme, check out the following link.
