The fascinating history of design

Barcelona Design Museum wants to help you to explore how this discipline has evolved over the years.

Ever since it first opened back at the end of 2014, the Barcelona Design Museum has been a magnet for people interested in design. The exhibitions that the museum hosts provide a clear and comprehensive history of this art that from the beginning design to the present. The museum has four permanent exhibitions that focus on different fields of design: ‘Dressing the Body. Silhouettes and fashion (1550-2015)shows how fashion standards have changed over the last 500 years to reflect the moral, social and aesthetic mores of each period; ' From the World to the Museum. Product Design, Cultural Heritage' shows us how everyday objects, have been carefully designed to meet our needs throughout the decades; Extraordinary! Collections of decorative and author-centred art (3rd-20th Century)shows how decorative arts in Catalonia have changed from the 3rd to the 20th century; and finally, Do you Work or Design? New Visual Communication. 1980-2003is an attempt to explain the sweeping changes in Spanish design and visual communication that occurred from 1980 to 2003.

The Barcelona Design Museum is located in Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes and is open from Tuesday to Sunday.
