Palau Robert hosts a retrospective on the work of RCR Arquitectes

The exhibition can be seen up until the 13th of September and offers a retrospective on the 25-year trajectory of the studio from Olot, a studio dedicated to research into architecture that is in perfect harmony with the surroundings

Up until the 13th of September, Palau Robert is hosting an exhibition entitled RCR Arquitectes – Shared creativity, an exhibition that, curated by Josep Maria Montaner, offers a retrospective on the 25-year trajectory of the well-known Olot studio that both champions research into architecture that is in perfect harmony with its surroundings and maintains strong ties with salient features of the Garrotxa region: volcanic rocks, woodland, the particular light of the area and the proximity of both handcraft industries and industrial manufacturers.

The exhibition is divided into several sections, the central section presenting seven concepts that may be considered the leitmotif of the company: Mediation with the landscape, Space, The presence of time, Public and social function, Structure and materiality, The system and Dematerialisation. Presentation is achieved via audio-visual elements projected onto some of the studio’s most eminent projects, among them the library and centre for the elderly in the Eixample district of Barcelona, the La Lira Theatre in Ripoll, the Soulages Museum in Rodès, France, and the Hofheide Crematorium in Belgium.

The remaining exhibition space also features photographs and texts by people who have studied and researched the work of RCR Arquitectes, a retrospective on the studio’s trajectory by means of a 21-metre-long chronological timeline map and a special section dedicated to single-family residences.

Over the years, RCR Arquitectes has received ample recognition for its active role in contemporary architecture. The studio won the National Culture Award, presented by the Generalitat de Catalunya, in 2005, and is, among other associations, an Honorary Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a member of the American Institute of Architects. The studio’s work has featured in publications and exhibitions in Paris, Chicago, New York, and Tokyo, among other cities.
