Open Extra 1714 – New edition

Three routes on the track of 1714 by the neighborhoods of Ciutadella, Ribera and Barceloneta are scheduled

The cultural association 48H Open House Barcelona has programmed a new edition of Open Extra 1714, a selection of guided tours of the Ciutadella, La Ribera and Barceloneta districts designed to raise awareness of the influence of the events of 1714 on the subsequent urban, architectural and morphological changes in the city.

With routes shall be able to visit buildings such iconic buildings and spaces as the Museu Picasso, the Santa Caterina market, the Park Hotel Barcelona and the Casa de la Barceloneta as buildings visited during the tours, in addition to other emblematic constructions such as the Castell dels Tres Dragons, the Palau Dalmases and the Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar, among others.
 

The Open Extra proposes, this time, three routes (all on Saturday). The first, on June 14 at the Ciutadella, explains as due to the destruction of the environment of the neighborhood, just overlapping two model city: the medieval model (result of individual planning, without a rational urban design and planning Street as a functional space) with the totalitarian model, based on tax and unit orders.

The second, on June 28 in Riverside, ranging from destruction of the medieval neighborhood structure to the progressive transformation into a so-called "museum city", a type of collage where tradition coexists with the current identity.

The third, on July 5 in Barceloneta, discloses the incorporation of land Maians island for the new district of geometric design, a fact that provides a change of orientation and an area of ​​growing importance for the whole city.

All three routes will be developed, in their days, between 10 and 13 h.
