Open City, Thought Biennial

Open City, Thought Biennial

Barcelona sees the birth of a new cultural project, which seeks to relate the debate about the role of the city in times of change with the present great waves of thought.

This autumn, Barcelona will be hosting the first Open City, Thought Biennial, a new cultural event with over 90 programmed activities at 71 venues around the city.

From 15 to 21 October, Barcelona will be brimming for seven intense days of debates, dialogues, artistic proposals, family activities in libraries and outdoors, philosophical themed strolls, specialisation workshops, hackathons, lectures, symposia, concerts, dance, circus, theatre, storytelling, etc.

The world is changing and cities are transforming. Given this context, the Thought Biennial will debate the role of the city, the future of democracy, the explosion of differences, the challenges of technological change and the relevance of the prevailing urban models.

What will the future of democracy look like? How will the explosion of differences affect us? What are the challenges posed by technological changes? What is the relevance of the prevailing urban models? These are just some of the questions that Open City will try and answer in October.

Open City is designed around four great trails, Democratic City, Diverse City, Digital City and Habitable City, with leading speakers and participants confirming their attendance. These include: Nicolás Barbieri, Roger Chartier, Guernica Facundo, David Fernàndez, Jean-Louis Laville, Oriol Nel·lo, Josep Ramoneda, Gaia Redaelli, Marina Subirats, Alfred Brendel, Judith Butler, Marcus du Sautoy, Najat El Hachmi, Marina Garcés, Helen Pritchard, Rita Laura Segato, Gayatri Spivak, Eduard Aibar, Renata Avila, the BalkonTactics group, LACOL, Òscar Camps, Dimmons, Donestech, Guifi.net, Dan Hill, Simona Levi, Nick Srnicek, Xavier Aldekoa, Josep Bohigas, Ricky Burdett, Daniel Innerarity, Máriam Martínez-Bascuñán, Remedios Zafra, Marta Porto, Richard Sennett, Paul B. Preciado, David Bravo, Paul Mason, Evgeny Morozov, Shoshana Zuboff, Iñaki Ábalos, Carlo Ratti, Fina Birules, Marta Peirano, Sergio Fajardo, Sarah Harrison and Gonçalo M. Tavares, to name but a few.
