Bon Iver will be performing at Parc del Fòrum on 1 June

One of the year’s most keenly awaited music festivals is here

A host of top names set to appear at the Primavera Sound Festival.

Spring has come to Barcelona and it’ time for Primavera Sound, which will once again take over the Parc del Fòrum complex for four intense days of music by bands and performers who are usually hard to see live in Barcelona. The list of performers is long and the bill is led by Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, The xx, Aphex Twin and Solange. But let’s see what’s happening day by day.

The festival is set to kick off on Wednesday 31 May with a free day of concerts featuring Catalans Anímic, who will be presenting their latest album7 Notas 7 Colores and a special performance by a band founded by Mucho Muchacho with producer Dive Dibosso, hip-hop pioneers in Spain and creators of Hecho, es simple (1997), the key record in the genre here, who will be on stage to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Also on the bill is the UK trio Saint Etienne, Californians Local Natives and, according to the latest news, Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey will be on hand to present Dancefloor Meditations.

The first of June also coincides with the first full day of action at the festival with the deconstructed pop of Bon Iver, electronica with Aphex Twin, R&B by Solange (Beyoncé’s kid sister), extreme metal with Slayer, The Afghan Whings, Mishima, Death Grips, Broken Social Scene... And the second of June promises to be equally choc-a-block with bands and new music: Frank Ocean, The xx, The Magnetic Fields, Berri Txarrak, Kepa Junkera, Grandaddy... Primavera Sound 2017 will be saying goodbye on 3 June with another marathon day featuring Van Morrison, Canada’s Arcade Fire, Missouri native Angel Olsen and the unpronounceable New Yorkers !!! (Chk Chk Chk).
