Barcelona 92 in the metro

Iconic images of the Olympic Games in the metro

Diagonal metro station and Espai Mercè Sala to host an exhibition of 120 photographs of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Twenty-five years have passed since Barcelona hosted the 1992 Olympic Games, an event that transformed the city’s spirit and physical layout. The games were the perfect excuse to correct old problems of urban planning and open up the city’s coastline. This process of transformation was slow, but it reached its climax in the celebration of the games, which changed Barcelona forever and put it on the map, with consequences that are still unfolding today. This exhibition at Diagonal metro station features 120 photographs from the EFE agency archives which serve to illustrate the transformation of the city.

The photos are on display in the corridor connecting lines 3 and 5, and also at Espai Mercè Sala. The exhibition is titled Barcelona 92 images. The Olympic works and covers different aspects of the process from building works to images of the volunteers who helped in the organization of the games.

The exhibition can be seen until 26 September and admission is free.
