The running fire parade from an earlier edition of the festival

Fiesta time in Barcelona’s old town quarter

The districts of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera will be hosting a frenetic programme of activities from 21 June to 2 July.

The temperature is set to rise in the last days of June and the first days of July in the Barcelona’s Old Town neighbourhood. And not only because summer is here and the sun is shining relentlessly, but because the streets will be buzzing with activities for all ages as both neighbours and visitors throw themselves into another edition of the local festival. The action will kick off with a grand parade, actually made up of four different concurring parades, and the official proclamation, which will be given by neighbour and shopkeeper Alfons Solà at the Civic Center of the Convent of San Agustín. All of this will take place on Thursday, 21 June from 6pm.

From then until 2 July, the garlanded streets and squares in the neighbourhood will play host to concerts, dances, running fire parades and other displays of Catalan folklore, along with open air suppers. Among this year’s novelties we can highlight puppet theatre by La Puntual, a small theatre located on Carrer de Allada Vermell, and the participation of the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc, which this year is celebrating its 125th anniversary.

The full programme can be consulted here.
