In October, 2nd edition of short film BarnaZoom Festival

It promotes cultural creation by at-risk teenagers and young people in Barcelona

In October, the 2nd edition of short film festival BarnaZoom will take place. It is organized by Casal d’Infants, with the aim of promoting and making cultural production by at-risk teenagersa and young people in Barcelona known. This event has the collaboration of Direcció de Creativitat i Innovació, with a grant of 1,268€ to invest in Information Technologies -IT.

Casal d’infants is something of an institution in the city, with 31 years experience working in the most vulnerable areas to achieve concrete and lasting improvements in the quality of lives of children, young people, families at risk of exclusion, or already excluded, and in the communities where they live, favouring social transformation from the closest environment.

One of their strengths is how they’ve learned to adapt to social, cultural and technological change, which led to starting up BarnaZoom Festival’s first edition last year. It’s a proposal with a creative IT-related methodology which intends to be ‘a way to link teenagers and young people to the activities, while dealing with habits like effort, team work, creative ability and feelings related to problematic situations’ people from Casal told.

‘The screening of works at BarnaZoom Festival provide a tangible destination for the teenagers and young people’s creativity, and may also be of help to others in the same situations’. Moreover, ‘audiovisual format allows the use of dissemination channels of youth culture through social networks’.

The involvement in the production of the several audiovisual pieces that will be part of the festival is intended for teenagers between 12 and 15, residing on areas of special vulnerability -basically Raval and Besòs area-, with difficulty following their educational process. All together, Casal d’infants estimates to reach to over 300 teenagers.
