The OBC on the beach: a refreshing concert in the open air

The session coincides with the acts celebrating International Music Day

A free concert on the beach is a good way of welcoming in the summer, especially if it coincides with International Music Day. It’s scheduled for Tuesday 21st June at 8.30pm on Sant Sebastía Beach (between Passeig de Joan de Borbó and Hotel W). The programme features music by Beethoven, Copland, Mendelssohn and Dvorák, among others, with Joan Albert Amargós as the conductor. Other works that will be performed are Bizet's Carmen, Verdi's La forza del destino and Swan Lake by Tchaikovski, in an effort to bring classical music to the general public.

This concert held on the shores of the Mediterranean will also offer a moment for reflection on the refugee crisis, with the intervention of the NGO Proactiva Open Arms who are helping to save lives on the island of Lesbos. Additionally, people who participate on social networks with the hashtag #OBCplatja can choose to see the concert from the stage and their images posted on Instagram can win movie passes, tickets for the OBC and other gifts.

Another act celebrating International Music Day is the concert by Trio Artis Barcelona at Palau Güell, where they will be introducing a unique instrument, the diaphone, at 8.30pm. Admission to the concert also includes a visit to the building, which was designed by Antoni Gaudí. Seating is limited, so early booking through the Palau Güell website is recommended.
