Novum 2015. Science and business shake hands

Researchers and managers share ideas and inspire each other in the second meeting jointly organized by the Barcelona Drucker Society.

There has already been the second meeting of entrepreneurs and researchers in Novum, the festival of science, technology and innovation driven by BCN Innovació.

During an informal breakfast, entrepreneurs, managers of leading companies and researchers in various scientific fields have been able to talk and share their experiences, needs and desires. A unique opportunity to share ideas, inspire each other and look into the future together.

After a first round of talks, Xavier Marcet, president of the Barcelona Drucker Society and host of the meeting, gave the floor to three outstanding representatives of the world of science and entrepreneurship. The computer engineer Pablo Casado, chief arquictector for Big Data projects in the incubator and business start-ups Incubio. The professor of psychobiology at the Institute of Neuroscience of the UAB Ignacio Morgado. And Dr. Jorge Wagensberg physics. The three have shared their expertise in their respective fields.

According to the computer engineer and entrepreneur Pablo Casado, "Internet is not a what, it's a how." The massive data generation network, the cornerstone of Big Data, increases exponentially year after year. The management of such data opens a virtually infinite range of possibilities in many areas that range from the scientific to the medicine or even sports through financial and, of course, business.

Meanwhile, Ignacio Morgado, dean founder of the Faculty of Psychology at the UAB, reminds us that although the memory is damaged irreparably, "is in our hands slow cognitive and mental deterioration." Beyond scientific advances, we can try a more orderly life. From sleep well to healthy food, going through the physical and mental exercise, with math, language learning and reading as some of the best practices according to Morgado.

Finally, Jorge Wagensberg, doctor in physics and professor of theory of irreversible processes of the University of Barcelona, has reminded us that science does not avoid contradictions, but quite the opposite: "We seek contradiction because that is what is most surprising, most stimulating." To Wagensberg, the confrontation with opponents is an effective tool to reaffirm our ideas or change them completely.

After exposure, there was the second round of talks for managers and entrepreneurs to share their concerns with researchers and these, in turn, contribute their knowledge to the world of business. Science and business working together for the future.
