Ninth edition of Bat Night in the Park

The Can Coll education centre will host the ninth edition of Bat Night in the Parc Natural de la Serra de Collserola on Thursday the 18th of July, from 6.30pm to 10pm

The event forms part of European Bat Night, which was first organised towards the end of the 90s in areas of Poland and France and since then has extended to a number of other countries. The objective of this ninth edition of Catalan Bat Night is to raise awareness of the situation faced by these animals and explain the need to preserve them as a species. Bats, the only mammals capable of flight, are excellent bio-indicators of the level of conservation of the environment.

Three separate activities will make up the evening - first of all, a hands-on workshop for the younger visitors, at 6.30pm. An hour later there will be a discussion with projected images of bats, nest boxes and related study methods, and, finally, beginning at 8.45pm, theory will give way to practise and, making the best of the surroundings in which the event is organised, there will be a night-time ramble around the Can Coll with the objective of observing the mammals in question using ultrasonic bat-detectors.

Participants must bring a small torch and suitable clothing and footwear. The event finishes at 10pm and prior inscription is required as places are limited.
