New Year Concert

Waltzes and ballet: two magical ingredients for a New Year's concert

In December and January, music lovers can enjoy an official production inspired by the traditional New Year’s Concert in Vienna featuring music by Johann Strauss.

All music lovers will be familiar with the New Year’s Concert that takes place in Vienna every year on 1 January in which the Vienna Symphony Orchestra plays a festive selection of Viennese waltzes, especially those written by the Strauss family, accompanied occasionally by dance numbers featuring the best couples specialized in waltzes. It’s now possible to enjoy this occasion without going to Vienna thanks to an official production by the Strauss Festival Orchestra and the Strauss Festival Ballet Ensemble, which for 28 years has held concerts in different cities in Europe. Over the festive period in Barcelona, this New Year’s concert will be performed at the city’s Palau de la Música concert hall and Liceu Opera House on 14 occasions from 16 December to 21 January.

Spectators attending one of these popular and exciting performances will have the opportunity to hear and clap along to classics like On The Beautiful blue Danube, Tales from the Vienna Woods, Radetsky March, and many others.
