New edition of NonStop Barcelona Animation

The Barcelona International Animation Festival will take place from the 20th to the 24th of May and offer screenings of short and feature-length films as well as master classes by world renowned animators

NonStop, the Barcelona International Animation Festival, will kick off in Fnac Triangle on the 20th of May and will continue up until the 24th in various venues around the city, offering a multitude of screenings of short and feature-length films as well as master classes by world renowned animators. The aim of the festival is to raise animation to its rightful place in the front line of the city’s cultural panorama.

One of the festival’s most eagerly-awaited master classes is that to be given by Carlos and Jordi Grangel, both of whom worked with Tim Burton on Corpse Bride and served as character designers for Dreamworks factory films the likes of Kung Fu Panda and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Another notable event will be the conference given by French animator Jacques-Remy Girerd, founder of the studio Folimage and animator responsible for films such as A Cat in Paris, Aunt Hilda and The Prophecy of Frogs, all of which will be screened during the festival. This edition of NonStop also opens its doors to videogames and will feature a conference by members of Alike Studios, an independent videogame studio located in Barcelona.

The official festival competition section will feature a number of current short animated films and, in general, screenings will include a selection of the best films seen at Annecy 2014, the foremost animated film festival in the world today. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see The Wind Rises, the latest jewel by Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki.

In addition to screenings, NonStop Barcelona Animation will also feature workshops and competitions, such as the cosplay competition on Saturday the 23rd. Some of the venues participating in this edition of the festival are the Casal de Joves Palau Alòs, the Institut Francès, FX Animation Barcelona 3D School, Cinemes Girona and Espai Jove La Fontana.
