New collection at the Joan Miró Foundation

A renovated presentation of Miró’s works on display from the 9th of April

The Joan Miró Foundation is one of the most important art museums in Catalonia. It was founded by the artist himself, mostly with pieces from his private collection, with the aim of establishing an internationally important centre for his art in Barcelona, and promoting research and studies of the artist and his work. The Foundation was inaugurated on 10 June 1975 and, since then, has become a dynamic space where Joan Miró’s art coexists with more contemporary artistic creations. Now, we have the chance to enjoy a renewed presentation of the Miró collection.

From 9 April on, the permanent collection will be enriched with incorporations from private collections and will, once again, be on display in the spaces that architect Josep Lluís Sert, together with Joan Miró, designed for his work. The new presentation allows visitors to get acquainted with the artist’s different periods, exploring his strong links with his origins while preserving the universal character of his work. This new presentation coincides with the 40th anniversary of the foundation and serves to reinforce its singular character as a Mediterranean environment in which art, architecture and landscape live closely together.
