“Natale in Casa Cupiello”, in the Biblioteca Nacional de Catalunya

La Perla 29’s classic returns for the third time and will be on until January 27th.

In Italian Cupiellos’ house the preprations for Christmas Eve dinner are being made: the wife cooks, her husband builds his beloved Nativity Scene, the spoiled big kid does mischiefs and the uncle who lives with them keeps complaining as he always does. Meanwhile the relationship between the daughter and her older but wealthy husband is not in its best moment, and the existence of the girl’s lover, who happens to be her brother’s friend, doesn’t help to calm things down.

This sort of things happen to the best of us, and use to burst in the gatherings that take place usually in these Christmas days, not only in our country but also in Italy, where takes place this story by Eduardo De Filippo premiered in Naples on Christmas Day of 1931, which makes you reflect on the importance of the family despite some complicated situations, in a treatment that can be described as dramatic comedy.

Boris Ruiz, Gemma Brió, Marissa Josa, Enric Auquer, Manel Dueso, Joan Arqué, Xicu Masó, Pere Ventura and Aina Ripol form the new cast of the Catalan version of “Natale in Casa Cupiello”, produced by La Perla 29, directed by Oriol Broggi and Ferran Utzet and already performed, with the old cast, in 2010 and 2011.
