The Museu Picasso presents a portrait of El Greco and captures the Cubism genius passion for the Renaissance painter

An exchange with the Prado Museum allows us to see this incomparable work together with more than 30 pieces of grequian inspiration, from October 22 to January 17, 2016

The admiration Picasso felt for the work and the figure of El Greco was a constant throughout his life, and became manifest in his own painting, especially in periods like the Blue Period and the beginning of Cubism, in the sixties.

During his stay in Madrid for the years 1897 and 1898, the Malaga-born artist studied the works of El Greco in numerous visits to the Prado Museum. The result of an exchange with the Museu Picasso allows us to see in Barcelona this masterpiece of portrait: Caballero anciano, by El Greco.

When Picasso returned from Madrid to Barcelona, he joined the circle of Quatre Gats, and thus came into contact with Rusiñol, Utrillo and Zuloaga, fans, collectors and supporters of the artist's work. During this period Picasso made many drawings and paintings where the inspiration for El Greco is central.

The exhibition La pasión grequiana de Picasso is completed with more than 30 pieces of grequian inspiration from the collection of the Museum.
