The Jove Filharmònica Catalana orchestra takes Mozart's 'Requiem' to Santa Maria del Mar

Accompanying the Catalan Youth orchestra are the Escriny and Camerata Inpromptu choirs.

Mozart's Requiem, which he began to compose late in life and left unfinished, frequently rings out in the vaults of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar. And the majestic setting makes it a special pleasure to hear the movements of Dies Irae and Confutatis amid the pillars of a Gothic building. If you haven't as yet had this experience, this month you will have three opportunities on 21, 22 and 23 March.

These performances will also be a special challenge for the musicians in the Jove Filharmònica Catalana, which is made up of local people aged from 16 to 24 years of age who are embarked on a course of studies that will culminate in their being granted a Master's degree. The orchestra gave its debut performance only a year ago in Reus. The orchestra will be accompanied by the Escriny and Impromptu Camerata choirs, featuring soloists Charo Tris (soprano), Numil Guerra (mezzo-soprano), Facundo Muñoz (tenor) and Joan Sebastià Colomer (bass-baritone), conducted by Amos Talmon and Melani Meter.

This interpretation of the Mozart's Requiem is part of the XIX Temporada Concerts a Barcelona cycle. The three performances will begin at 9pm.
