Mercè Rodoreda literary outings

Three tours of different districts of the city include landmarks relating to the life and works of the author of “Broken Mirror” and “The Time of the Doves”

All of Mercè Rodoreda’s works are strongly linked to the period during which they were conceived. With this in mind, Itineraplus have created three distinct itineraries relating to the works of the author during different periods of her life. The routes may be organised for groups on provision of prior notice.

The first route, Sant Gervasi i els jardins daurats de la seva infantesa (The Sant Gervasi district and the golden garden of her youth), is an intimate, detailed look at the district where the author of “Aloma” and “Broken Mirror” spent her childhood including the house where she was born, her school and playgrounds, etc., all the landmarks that lend Rodoreda’s work its transcendent symbolic and poetic value.

The second route is titled Guerra, exili i postguerra, La plaça del Diamant i els testimonis de la tragèdia (War, exile, post-war, La plaça de Diamant and the testimonies of the tragedy). This tour is based on a monologue by Colometa, the protagonist of her most universal novel, and takes in key locations of the Gràcia district, reconstructing fragments of the historical memory of the war and post-war years.

Desxifrant Rodoreda, l’empremta d’una escriptora universal al cor de la Barcelona literària (Interpreting Rodoreda and the footprint of a universal author in the heart of literary Barcelona), is the third of the itineraries on offer. From the Ateneu Barcelonès to the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, taking in the Fundació and Jardins Mercè Rodoreda (interior patios in the Casa de la Convalescència that include plants and flowers mentioned in the author’s work), the tour is an attempt to help participants appreciate the essential elements of the author’s work during her later years.
