Méliès Cinemes celebrates its 20th anniversary

To mark the occasion, tickets will cost only €3 from 19 to 25 December

Twentieth anniversaries don’t come round every day, especially in the context of the difficult times that cinemas are going through these days, so it’s more important than ever to celebrate this achievement. And even more to its merit, Méliès Cinemes is a cinema that specialises in independent and alternative films. Located at 102 Carrer de Villarroel, the cinema was opened on 20 December 1996 by film producer, screenplay-writer, director, critic and lawyer Carles Balagué.

Since then, plenty of films have been screened there and, as well as the problems facing all cinemas in the present climate, Méliès has had to face several disasters over the years, including a fire, a flood and the ceiling falling down. To celebrate its survival in the face of those odds, the cinema wants to share its good luck with filmgoers and from 19 to 25 December, tickets will cost only €3.

Twenty Years of Méliès Cinemes.
