Mecal: Barcelona’s short film festival

Croatia is the guest country at the festival, which will run from the 10th of March to the 3rd of April.

One of the city’s most iconic audiovisual festivals is back in town: the Mecal short and animated film festival. The 2016 edition sees a carefully selected programme featuring the most important short films on both the Catalan and the international scenes. For the 5,500 films received from 110 countries, the festival organisation has created four official sections: International, Oblique, Animation and Documentary. A programme of 31 parallel activities will also take place around the festival.

Croatia is the guest country for this year’s event. The films selected for the festival will offer us an idea of contemporary Croatian filmmaking and the chance to immerse ourselves in the traditions of the county.

Restless minds will also have the chance to look for surprises in the parallel programme, which includes sections on science fiction and Spanish film talent. Younger film fans also have a special section for them, as do children. Finally, Womart is the long-standing alternative section of the festival and features an audio-visual portrait of the female universe.
