The work of this young Basque photojournalist is coming to the Espai Fotogràfic Can Basté in the shape of a selection of images from five wars under the title ‘Un món convuls’.
The photographic exhibition featuring Andoni Lubaki at Can Basté is called 'A World in Turmoil' for a good reason: in our world there are still wars, there are territories where terror is still a daily reality , where death is a constant threat, where civilians are suffering and military aggression is still making life impossible. Documenting this reality are war correspondents, reporters and photojournalists, who, putting their lives on the line, attempt to capture what’s happening. Though young, Lubaki, who was born in Urretxu in 1982, has carved out a reputation as an experienced and war-hardened photojournalist. A sample of his work can be seen from 30 November to 20 January.
The exhibition features images, taken during Lubaki’s six year career, of recent conflicts in Libya, Iraq, Ukraine, Syria and Western Sahara in which he has captured moments of tension, terror, rest, everyday life among the debris and also of friendship, love and fleeting happiness. They bear witness to a world gone mad. On the opening day of the exhibition, Andoni Lubaki himself will be there to tell us how he managed to reach the heart of contemporary darkness to do his job.
