Lúa Coderch presents “The Magic Mountain”

The Espai 13 area of the Joan Miró Foundation presents the second exhibition in the Preventative Archaeology series, which can be seen from the 19th of December to the 16th of March next year

The Espai 13 area of the Joan Miró Foundation presents an exhibition by Lúa Corderch entitled The Magic Mountain based on the paradox of what is known as “the historical present”, in which historical moments are made memorable by the use of imaginary events that took place in the Montjuïc Mountain.

The exhibition, conceived as a vessel for the capture of individual moments, can be seen from the 19th of December to the 16th of March next year. All the elements which comprise the exhibition are stored in a warehouse designed by the artist as a simulation of the municipal archives on Via Favència, where the Barcelona City Council stores sculptures and material which have been removed from public spaces. On each of the 72 days of the exhibition the artist will reveal one of the elements that has been stored (all are related to the imaginary history of the Montjuïc Mountain and may take the form of video, audio, photographs, sculptures, archived images...) and put it on display in the exhibition room on a support especially designed for the occasion.

Using this method, Coderch explores both the past and present of these elements, all of which are related to the urban expansion of Barcelona and historically linked to events, tourism icons and official campaigns. The Magic Mountain is part of the series entitled Preventative Archaeology which is curated by Oriol Fontdevila and which, in turn, forms part of the programme of activities commemorating the tercentenary of 1714.
