LOOP Festival returns

Various Barcelona venues play host to the celebration of contemporary video creativity, from 29 May to 7 June

Now in its 12th year, LOOP, the contemporary festival that links together all the artistic pursuits related to the world of video, cinema and the new media, comes with the arrival of spring. This time the festival explores the theme of audience participation, the role of viewers and their reactions to the moving image.

The event is divided into the LOOP Fair, the video arts trade fair held 5-7 June, and the LOOP Festival, which seeks to connect up the network of artists, galleries, curators and art world professionals.

Scattered throughout various venues, LOOP is the pretext for numerous video art exhibitions. At Arts Santa Mónica, for example, Panorama offers a Catalonian tour of the region’s audiovisual practice; the Maritime Museum’s video artists explore the concept of travel while Casa Àsia will showcase Indonesian video art. Zumzeig Cinema will show the work of six artists reflecting on the city of Barcelona. At the CCCB meanwhile, the pianist Mikhail Rudy will provide live accompaniment to a screening of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, from the Quay brothers.

A host of galleries will additionally organise exhibitions and screenings linked to the audiovisual world. All this will be accompanied by such diverse activities as workshops, guided visits, events and screenings for children.

The festival is held from 29 May to 7 June. For more information, please visit the festival website.
